Joe Kuban has always had two passions besides wife and sons: love of nature and music. Love of nature has been there as long as he can remember, instilled by an amazing gardener mom and a fisherman dad. "You can't run your fingers through the earth or sit quietly as the sun rises on a still Texas lake without figuring out that nature is something quite remarkable." Always singing as a youngster got him and brothers John and Martin into the Texas Boys Choir. In high school and college, Joe sang in several Ft. Worth rock & roll bands and began to write music. Over the past 25 years, he's composed a whole mess of wedding songs, liturgical music, rock & roll and country tunes. He also has written a 40th anniversary song and an annual senior song for grads at Nolan Catholic High School where he has taught for the last 29 years. Joe did his masters and doctoral research in Big Bend where, much inspired, he composed many "Big Bend tunes" while studying the ecology of hummingbirds and Century Plants in the park. Currently, Dr. Kuban is the Science Department Chair at Nolan as well as an adjunct professor in the Biology department and graduate school at the University of Texas at Arlington. |
